Massaud reworks this icon that is the epitome of a precise interior context (English clubs where gentlemen gathered to converse) and a precise target (prevalently male and elitist), but in a contemporary update.
The process starts with subtraction. The forms are softened, the volumes get lighter. The classic imaginary of the club chair loses its physical weight, becoming a sinuous profile traced in the air, and it also loses its “status” of open ostentation, rediscovering sensations of grave, fluidity and discretion. Le Club is thus the concrete embodiment of the concept of “lightness,” in its aesthetic and its character. With this renewed identity, it can easily enter hospitality and image spaces, and especially residential settings: living areas, lounge corners, or a refined night zone. With its nonchalant elegance, Le Club conserves its primary quality intact: that of a comfortable seat that creates a perfect alcove for resting, reading, entertaining guests, rediscovering personal wellbeing. All this is derived from just two parts: the structure (with a steel core) bends visibly to create the seat (padded with flexible molded polyurethane) and the armrests, like a single curved sheet, while the wide arched back takes part in the game of geometry with stylistic coherence. The covering in fabric or leather is not removable, but clings perfectly to the structure, emphasizing its shape.
